Rap Sessions Speaking Tour
If you're in California or Oregan in the next few weeks be on the lookout for Rap Sessions--the first national tour exploring race and hip-hop. The speaking tour focuses on creating dialogues to "assist community building and social change" for the hip hop generation. Authors Adam Mansbach (Angry Black White Boy) and Bakari Kitwana (Why White Kids Love Hip Hop: Wangstas, Wiggers, Wannabes, and the New Reality of Race in America) will be present and speaking at the shows. Kitwana comments on his participation by saying, "The issue of race has shifted with this generation. Young people recognize that when it comes to race a more enlightened perspective should increasingly be part of the national discourse." Catch the shows (some free and open to the public) at the following locations: Los Angeles, CA (UCLA) April 20 Schoenberg Hall, Jan Popper Theater, 7:00 pm Oakland, CA (Laney College) April 22 Laney College Auditorium, 12:00 noon Salem, OR (Willamette University) April 27 Montag Den, 7:00 pm
