Malik Yusef

Malik Yusef is a five-time Grammy winning artist, poet, songwriter and producer. A poet since the age of 21 (appearing on Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam in 2002), he has translated talent, music industry savvy and life experiences growing up in Chicago into an incredible music career. A six-time ASCAP award-winner for both pop and R&B, Malik has received Emmy, Peabody, and Tony awards. Most recently, Malik co-wrote “Sandcastles” for Beyoncé’s album Lemonade. As one of Kanye West’s most trusted contributors, Malik co-wrote and contributed to various Kanye West projects over the years, including The Life of Pablo, Yeezus, and My Dark Twisted Fantasy. As a producer and contributor, Yusef has collaborated with hip-hop artists Vic Mensa, Ty Dolla Sign, Common, among others. He was also a featured producer with the legendary band “WAR” on their first studio album in 20 years, released in June 2014. Also that year, Malik Yusef was Executive Producer of the album HOME (Heal Our Mother Earth), featuring Common, NE-YO, and a host of dynamic artists. As an activist, Malik has founded various Chicago-area organizations including For Yourself Foundation and Girl Power. At the national level, he is Director of Arts and Culture for Hip Hop Caucus.
